How to check your age eligibility for an exam

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Enter the cut-off date from the notification (often 1 January or 1 August of the exam year).
  3. The tool shows your age on that date and whether it falls in the allowed range.

Age is counted on the cut-off date, not today

Every notification fixes a reference date and your age is calculated as on that date. Being within the limit today is irrelevant if you cross it by the cut-off.

Relaxations

Upper age limits are relaxed for reserved categories — the exact years differ by exam and category and are listed in the notification. Add the relaxation to the general upper limit when checking.

Always confirm against the notification

This tool does the date arithmetic only. The authoritative limits, cut-off date and relaxation table are in the official notification for that recruitment.

Frequently asked questions

How is age calculated for government exams?

As on the cut-off date in the notification, not the application date or exam date. Enter both dates here to see your age on that day.

What date do I use as the cut-off?

The one printed in the notification — commonly 1 January or 1 August of the exam year. It varies, so check.

Does this tool include category age relaxation?

It gives your exact age on the cut-off date. Compare that against the general limit plus your category’s relaxation from the notification.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.

Government job applications after military service

Applying after military service? Read the Sainik Desk guide to ex-servicemen job reservation for background on the documents and rules to check. Its military-to-civilian skills guide can help you describe service experience in a civilian application. Always use the recruiting authority's current notification for eligibility, age relaxation and required certificates; these independent guides do not replace it.
