PROBLEM FIX

Photo not uploading to exam form — here's how to fix it

Most exam portals (SSC, IBPS, UPSC, RRB) reject photos for one of three reasons: file too large, wrong pixel dimensions, or wrong format. The fix is quick once you know which rule failed.

Step-by-step fix

1

Check the error message

The portal usually shows a specific error — "file size exceeds limit", "invalid dimensions", or "unsupported format". Note which one.

2

Use the exam photo resize tool

Select your exam from the tool. It auto-applies the correct size, compression, and format. Upload that file.

3

Still failing? Check background and face

Some portals also verify white background and clear face visibility. These cannot be fixed by resizing — reshoot the photo if needed.

4

Try a different browser

If the portal itself is unresponsive, try Chrome or Edge on desktop. Safari on iOS sometimes has upload issues with certain portals.

Common causes and fixes

File size too large (e.g. "photo exceeds 50KB")

Use the resize tool — it compresses to the exact KB range for your exam.

Wrong dimensions ("invalid image size")

Upload through the resize tool — it crops and resizes to exact px requirements.

Wrong format ("only JPG allowed")

Tool auto-converts PNG to JPEG. Download as JPG.

Corrupt file upload

Re-process through the tool and download fresh. Don't re-use old resized files.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the SSC portal keep rejecting my photo?

SSC requires 200×230px, 20–50KB, JPG format. Photos from phones are often 3–5MB and 3000×4000px. Use the SSC CGL resize tool to auto-fix all three at once.

My photo is under 50KB but still rejected. Why?

File size alone isn't enough — the portal also checks pixel dimensions. A 30KB photo that is 400×500px will still be rejected if the requirement is 200×230px.

Can I upload a HEIC photo from iPhone?

Most portals don't accept HEIC. On iPhone, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and set "Most Compatible" to shoot in JPG. Or convert using the resize tool before uploading.
